Massaging the body is as old as time and one massaging technique we are going to look at today is the Chinese Tui Na.
It's a massaging method that can run from deep painful massaging to hands kneading, pressing, folding, and even brushing when the giver feels it calls for it. All this is done between your joints known as the eight gates in order to open your body's defenses Wei (chi).
Although Tui Na was typically used on the elderly and infants way back when, it grew to be a beneficial treatment for all. It has morphed into several groupings for more specific massages such as orthopedics, traumatology, cosmetology, rehabilitation, sports medicine, etc.
Tui Na translated means poke/pinch or push/grasp. The masseur/masseuse of such a massage uses his hands to push or kneed the skin and muscles under it to remove any blockage along the meridians.
Meridians are point in the body for which there are twelve of. Six in the arms and six in the legs all having the yin and yang effect meaning when one is the yin there is another part that's the yang. Keeping these yin and yang working together gives you better Chi.
Typically when you go to get a Tui Na you would answer a few questions. Giving the truth for these answers gives the masseur/masseuse the information he/she needs to help you and also informs them of little things such as if you are allergic to anything or have any medical conditions they need to be aware of.
Loose clothing is normally worn so it can be easily repositioned if needed. If you are there for a specific injury or problem they will concentrate on the energy points or muscles of the effected area. Occasionally direct skin contacted is needed and in that case removal of the clothes may be necessary but your permission should be given before this happens.
A session can run anywhere between ten minutes to over an hour depending on the need, area, and extensity of the problem. And many patients often return for more treatments for the more extensive situations.
Tui Na massage also has been known to use herbal packs applied to the skin which may aid in the healing process but should be used cautiously in case of a reaction so remember to inform your masseur/masseuse of any allergies for this very reason. Also people with sensitive skin might be cautious of these packs.
This kind of massage is typically done on a massage table or floor mat depending on the injury and masseur/masseuse's choice. But if you at all feel uncomfortable on the floor tell your masseur/masseuse and I'm sure something can be worked out.
Tui Na is often used in conjunction with acupuncture which is another beneficial form which allows or helps the chi in your body. This line of massage is greatly looked upon because it has fewer side effects then drugs or various other chemically based treatments.
Feel the wellness of complete and utter relaxation, treat yourself to a Tui Na.
